Blog Tour: Kate in Waiting – Becky Albertalli

My rating: 4/5 stars

Rating: 4 out of 5.

[PRINCIPAL CAST LIST]
Kate Garfield
Anderson Walker

Best friends, and contrary to popular belief, not co-dependent.

Examples:
Carpooling to and from theatre rehearsals? Environmentally sound and efficient.
Consulting each other on every single life decision? Basic good judgment.
Pining for the same guys from afar? Shared crushes are more fun anyway.

But when Kate and Andy’s latest long-distance crush shows up at their school, everything goes off-script.

Enter Stage Left: Matt Olsson
He is talented and sweet, and Kate likes him. She really likes him. The only problem? So does Anderson.

Turns out, communal crushes aren’t so fun when real feelings are involved. This one might even bring the curtains down on Kate and Anderson’s friendship…

My thoughts

A story filled with diversity, friendship and crushes. What is there not to love?

I appreciate that I am in no way the target audience for this novel but this did not stop it from being such a good and light-hearted read. Definitely one to immerse yourself in for a short time.

All of the characters within the novel were very well thought out and I just know I would have loved to read this one when I was younger. The example it sets for diversity in YA novels is amazing and I would love to read more novels that feel so inclusive.

I adore musicals so it was such a fun aspect to the novel and really added the fun to it. The musical really aided in the exploration of the characters’ relationships, whether that be platonically or romantically. The whole set up was just so cute.

Kate and Anderson’s friendship was such a great focus for the novel. I felt that Kate was such an easy character to connect to and her emotions felt real and that if you were in her position you would have felt the same. This made it so much more likeable as a YA novel as it didn’t feel too trivial or young.

This was the first novel I have read by Becky Albertalli and I will definitely be reading more! It was such a cute escape and I managed to finish it in no time at all. This novel is an amazing addition to the YA romance/friendship space and deserves to be the bestseller I’m sure it will be.
