A Small Update

Hi guys!

It has been a while since I have managed to post on my blog because I’ve had a lot going on at the moment. I thought I would give you a little update about me and what I have been doing whilst I haven’t been posting.

Over August and the start of September I worked at my usual retail job that I go back to when I’m not at university. We were short staffed so I ended up working almost full time. I was still managing to read whilst I was at work but I found it easier to post on my book Instagram account (https://www.instagram.com/aliceandherbookshelf/). I spend more time on my blog posts as I feel like I need to dissect what I am reading, whereas my Instagram reviews are much shorter which made it easier to continue with that instead.

I have now moved back to university and I am hoping to get back into my blog and my reviews. I started this blog to share my loved of reading and I would love to continue that alongside my degree. At the moment, I have been told that my lectures will not be timetabled and so will just be able to access these in my own time. On top of this, my seminars are also online but will be live to ensure attendance. This has made me feel uneasy about the rest of my time at university because selfishly, I know I will struggle to focus from home and the quality of teaching will not be anywhere near the same. But because of the vast amount of time I will be at home, I am hoping that I will have more time to focus on my reading for enjoyment and not just the reading for my degree.

My reading for September has been much slower than my reading in previous months but I do have some huge books on my list! I have been reading more fantasy at the moment, I just wish fantasy books were smaller! I will still be trying to post my reviews for all of the books I have been reading and I definitely have some popular choices on my TBR.

I couldn’t bring all of my books to my university house but I do have a library card so please still give me your recommendations! I am excited to continue my bookish journey and hopeful will manage to keep a balance between this and my law reading.

If anyone has any tips for balancing blogging and a degree or day-to-day work, please let me know in the comment section.

  1. Good luck at uni! It’s so hard trying to stay motivated when working from home. It helped me to make myself a structured timetable so that I could everything done that I wanted to.
Blogging-wise I tend to keep a reading journal with a monthly calendar of which posts I want to put up each day of the month – it’s really helped me get into a rhythm and make sure I keep posting regularly.
Hope all goes well – happy reading! ☺️

  2. Oh! I am going through the same thing right now and it seems like my grades, work, and blogging are suffering.

I read a blog post a while back that talked a bit about this, and their suggestion was to use short breaks like during lunch, bus rides etc.. for reading. I’ve been trying this and it helps! They also suggested always prioritizing reading over social media/TV so you read first, then do that.

Hope this helps! Keeping up reading during the school year can be so hard.
