Blog Tour: Crossing in Time – D.L. Orton

My rating: 4.5/5 stars

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

The past isn’t over, it’s an opening. The future isn’t hidden, it’s a trap.
If she ever wants to see him again, she’ll have to take the risk.

When offered a one-way trip to the past, Isabel sacrifices everything for a chance to change the rapidly deteriorating present–and see her murdered lover one last time. When she arrives twenty years in the past, buck naked and mortally wounded, she has 24 hours to convince a stunned but enraptured nineteen-year-old to change their future. If someone took the love of your life, how far would you go to get it back?

My thoughts

Sci-fi usually isn’t my genre of choice but when I was approached to do this blog tour I was so happy that I probably would have said yes to anything. That being said, I enjoyed this novel far more than I thought I would and didn’t want it to end!

Not being a huge sci-fi fan I was nervous that the time travel would be explained in such a complicated way that I wouldn’t be able to wrap my head around it. I couldn’t be more wrong. The whole novel was written so well and at no point was I confused or bored with any type of science. The fact that the time travel was never fully explained never bothered me and was honestly a bit of a relief. I know time travel is a well-explored subject in novels but I really thought that novel added a new edge to it and explored a different side to time travel.

I was completely enthralled by Isabel and Diego and their story. Isabel is a headstrong female lead and I loved that about her. She was feisty and the whole way through the novel she stayed strong which I really admired. Diego was charming and said all the right things and cared so much about Isabel that it was hard not to love him. Their love took me on an emotional rollercoaster through passion and pain that I wasn’t quite ready for.

The different narratives in the novel really worked and reading the novel from the different points of view really helped with my understanding of the plot. I liked knowing what the different characters were thinking and it also allowed for the novel to be well paced, nothing was given away too early.

The incorporation of romance and sci-fi was expertly navigated and was really what got me hooked. I was rooting for Isabel and Diego throughout the novel and it was what made this such a good read for me. But I was also interested in the time travel/sciency side because of my love for the characters and their love for each other. The plot is well paced and I honestly read this novel so quickly.

I cannot recommend this novel enough if you are like me and wouldn’t say you are a huge sci-fi fan. I think that this is a great gateway novel into the genre and the romance element helps to keep you hooked. I can’t wait to read the other novels in the series and find out what happens next!
